“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others,
as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” —1 Peter 4:10
While we come to faith in Christ individually, God has designed the church so that we grow in faith together. Believers need one another for encouragement, edification, and to make each other more like Christ. The “one anothering” happens best when we share life together with other Christians, studying, praying, and spending time with one another.
Our small Groups exist to provide a context for this to happen. Our groups are scattered throughout Great Falls and meet weekly (generally) in local homes, and all of them are committed to Bible study, prayer, and relationship building.
The goals of these Small Group Bible Studies are to:
– worship Jesus Christ and give him glory (1 Corinthians 10:31; Matthew 16:16-18)
– witness to the lost the gospel of Jesus Christ, calling those in spiritual darkness to come into the light (Matthew 28:19-20)
– work, exercising spiritual gifts that believers may be equipped and edified for greater service for Christ (Ephesians 4:12)
“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” —1 Corinthians 16:13-14
Men’s ministry isn’t primarily about a weekly meeting (as helpful as the regularity and accountability of that vehicle is). Our goal is being men who look and act more like Jesus in all the complicated and varied callings of our life. This often includes putting off the fleshly desire to isolate ourselves (Proverbs 18:1) for fear of exposure, and putting on humility that brings us together in our goal of Christlikeness (Proverbs 17:17). In this sense men’s ministry is always happening, whether in the Sunday morning gathering, small groups, or a few men getting together during the week to memorize Scripture and ask hard questions of each other. The mainstay of the ministry, (and where the optimal blend of ingredients of sanctification comes together), is our weekly Thursday morning 6 am meeting “Grace & Grit” that meets at EBC.
“Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.” —Titus 2:3-5
Our studies include:
In addition, the Women’s Ministry is heavily involved in Care and Fellowship events.
EBC is committed to supplementing not supplanting the parents biblical role in their youths’ lives. EBC wants to affirm and encourage the vital spiritual responsibility parents have in their youths’ lives (Ephesians 6:4; Proverbs 4:1-4; Joshua 4:6, 7; 2 Timothy 1:5). This also leads to wanting to encourage and help not just youth, but parents in their walk with the Lord.
That said, Parents do not possess every spiritual gift, or have the opportunity to display Christ in all the fullness that the rich tapestry of believers in the church do. It is our understanding therefore, that the church also plays a vital spiritual role in the training and nurturing of youth.
The Youth Ministry at EBC is therefore designed to integrate the youth into the life flow of the church. The world has no answers to what to do with generational differences, but God, in His genius, saw fit to squish everyone from “cradle to grave” in one beautiful body.
Finally we recognize that by God’s design we are all in different biological (1 Timothy 4:12) and spiritual life stages (1 John 2:12-14). Integration of youth into the large body does not erase their uniqueness, rather it highlights it by valuing their involvement in the body and the body’s involvement in their life.
Youth ministry doesn’t have to choose between being “fluffy” or lifelessly rigid. It can, by God’s grace, be a means of both introducing youth to the Gospel of Christ and helping them mature and grow in that gospel grace (Colossians 1:28).
In view of the above we might summarize: The purpose of EBC’s youth ministry is to assist parents in the evangelism and discipleship of their youth by facilitating relationships with more mature saints in the church so that they might know and love Jesus for the rest of their lives.
RESOLUTE Senior High meets every Wednesday 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm to enjoy a time of fellowship, fun, food, song and the study of God’s Word.
412 Junior High meets every Sunday during the Equipping Hour 9-10 am to study God’s Word, and once a month for a special activity.
We are committed to striving for worship that pleases God both in our corporate worship services as well as our private times of ado-ration. Worship should be a perpetual experience of the heart whereby God is ascribed supreme worth! It is the cultivation of a moment-by-moment God-consciousness so that in all things we demonstrate the ultimate preeminence of almighty God. The very heart of worship is expressed in Psalm 27:4-6, “One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life; To behold the beauty of the Lord, and to meditate in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me; And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.”
True worship from the heart results, among other things, in a bursting forth of praise through music and song. God Himself seeks true worshipers who offer up adoration and exultation which is grounded in His self-revelation and deep faith and conviction (John 4:24). Worshiping “in spirit” is that which engages the heart of a person. True worship flows from the inner dimension of a man and involves the intellect, the emotions, and the will as the following texts illustrate:
Music is not only an outflow of the new song of redemption which has transformed the heart, it is a tool God commands us to use for giving corporate expression to the praises of His people when they gather in His name.
Music is not an end in itself. Rather, it enhances our worship of God beyond that of the spoken word alone (Psalm 147:1) and enriches our convictions with the wonder and majesty of God-given musical expression.
May our worship be unto His glory!
A. PRESUPPOSITIONS UNDERLYING MUSIC AND WORSHIP AT EBC
B. GUIDING PRINCIPLES FOR THE MUSIC AND WORSHIP MINISTRY
Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16 indicate that music of differing content should be used in communicating the Word of God within the Body. While the difference between “psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs” may be difficult to distinguish with technical definitions, we believe that “psalms” generally refers to the psalms and canticles in the Bible, “hymns” most probably refers to ancient songs of praise written to teach more theological content in their poetry and verse, and “spiritual songs” are likely the varied and broad songs com-posed for praise, adoration, and to express the testimony of a heart transformed by Christ.
Establishing clear distinctions requires biblical clarity, maturity, and prayerful discernment. Godly leadership, sound & powerful preaching, and a selfless music team will ensure discernment where latitude is permitted. Defining what is appropriate will also vary according to the musicians God has brought to the local church, the makeup of the congregation, and its geographical location. Stylistic variations may occur between the main services of the church and other gatherings or small groups because of different ages and ministry emphasis. It is God who brings His people together, saving and gathering whom-ever He chooses. With the variety of backgrounds and traditions potentially converging in one church, it is wise to prepare corporate worship music that reflects a moderate middle between the outer reaches of the congregation’s demographics. This reflects the natural make-up of the community from which the church draws, and prevents any approach that caters to the extremes of opposing tastes and traditions.
It should be remembered that where various personal preferences in musical taste exist, an attitude of love, patience, mutual deference, and trust in God must prevail. Young and old in the family of God may personally indulge their preferred styles and tastes, but God calls us together for corporate worship in His Name.
Godly leadership will safeguard the quest for balance, and in the end the greater priority is to have a servant-hearted concern about the Lord’s work and His body. Jesus’ words to the apostles should be our moniker of ministry: “If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all” (Mark 9:35).
C. WEAKNESSES TO AVOID IN THE MUSIC AND WORSHIP MINISTRY
D. PRACTICAL TIPS FOR THE “BLENDED WORSHIP SERVICE”
Adapted from “Music & Worship Ministries, Seeking a Godly Balance” by Pastor Jerry Wragg, Grace Immanuel Bible Church, Jupiter, FL.
“Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” —James 1:27
You might be surprised to learn how much the Bible has to say in widows-they are a special class of people to the Lord. We have a ministry aimed at coming alongside these ladies and lavishing them with love and attention.
“We are grateful to the Emmanuel body for providing us with the resources that enable us to get together each month for a luncheon, each Christmas for a blessed time and a day trip over the summer.”
Rejoicing with those who rejoice, weeping with those who weep, and bearing one another’s burdens sometimes looks like a warm meal delivered at the right time-new births, home goings, surgery recoveries, illnesses. Our volunteers provide the cooking and prep, and delivery of “comfort meals” with little or no notice.
We have an active Sunday morning for all ages. For the children (age 3 to 8th grade), we use the “Generations of Grace” Sunday School curriculum – a biblically based and God-centered program which covers the whole Bible in three years. All three age groups cover the same text (which are printed in our Sunday bulletin). This unified approach helps parents to reinforce the teaching at home.
Adult classes (9th Grade & up) meet in the Sanctuary for a variety of classes.
Parents have a lot on their minds-and hands-and the ability to give them a respite by taking care of the babies during the 9 am and 10:30 am services is an important gift. It is perhaps one of the best ways we can serve them. Consider signing up to help out every once and a while.
Marital issues, relationship struggles, parenting, fear, anger, anxiety, addiction, depression or finances troubles? Do you believe the Bible really has solutions for life’s most trying struggles? We believe the Bible sufficiently addresses all spiritual and relationship issues (Psalms 19:7-14; 2 Timothy 4:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3), and that the local church is the context in which biblical counseling should be done (1 Timothy 3:15). Please call the church office to make an appointment.
In an effort to be obedient to God’s command to be a city on a hill, and to make disciples EBC devotes a significant amount of attention to asking how we are doing that both locally and Globally. We believe this is reflected in how we budget our time, finances, and how we order our preaching and church ministry. Our outreach is purposefully not oriented around large events or drawing crowds but finds its strength in the day to day interactions of believers with the word around them in their workplaces, recreation, homes, and travels. We believe the opportunities in Great Falls are rich and really want to grow in this area but are thankful for the examples we have in our midst of evangelists full of grace and truth.
